Giulia Martinengo Marquet

An intelligent horsewoman, astute breeder, woman and mum with a kind, disarming smile.
Giulia is one of Italy’s champions who is the envy of the world of equitation.

Giulia sees equitation as a way of life driven by passion, determination and, above all, by a love of horses. She feels that riding is a way of approaching another living being with empathy and respect. The emotions, fears and strengths of the partnership must be perfectly married for outstanding results to be achieved.

Born in Palmanova on 6th March 1979, Giulia has always been surrounded by horses and started riding as soon as she could walk. As she grew, so did her passion for horses: she made her international debut at sixteen years old competing in two European Championships for Young Riders. When Giulia finished school she already knew exactly what she wanted to do. “I’d realised that equitation couldn’t be a hobby and told my mum that I wanted to ride professionally. She gave me her full support and has been my number one fan ever since. I’m extremely ambitious. My parents’ home and stables was in Palmanova and they, together with my elder brother Riccardo, have always supported me and encouraged me to never give up.”

This Italian horsewoman has been riding for the Italian army since 2004, and won the Italian Championship in 2015. Giulia went on to win another Italian Championship and the Nations Cup at Piazza di Siena in 2018.

Giulia became a mum in 2012. Her daughter Bianca accompanies her to all the shows, and Giulia hopes to pass on her immense passion for horses to her.

Giulia has had a yard for many years where she breeds and trains future champions. Her experience as a rider and breeder has taught her that nutrition plays a key role in ensuring that horses stay healthy and perform well, particularly if they are competition horses that are worked daily, travel extensively and away for long weekends at shows where they need to perform at their best both physically and mentally.

Giulia chooses Porrini because the quality of their ingredients makes a real difference, they focus on the new discoveries and innovative solutions offered by technology, and also because they offer a varied product range with the opportunity to devise specific dietary solutions to meet the individual needs of each and every horse.

Modern equitation involves doing other activities to stay fit, and is primarily a mental and psychological undertaking. Concentration and mindfulness make all the difference. Nothing can be left to chance, and automated behaviours need to be learned if you want to get the best results.
